7,000 Participants from 70 Nations at the 10th adidas TERREX Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival
From April 30 to May 3, 2025, the adidas TERREX Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival (IATF) will celebrate its 10th anniversary—marking the occasion with several records: 7,000 participants from 70 nations will compete over four days in a total of 14 races. For the first time, the Austrian (National) Championships in Trail Classic and traditional mountain running will be held as part of the event, further cementing the IATF’s status as the largest trail running event in German-speaking Europe.
Since the successful Mountain Running and Trail Running World Championships in Innsbruck-Stubai in 2023, the IATF has experienced a real boom in participation, with registration numbers reaching new record highs year after year. New to the program this year are the Young Talents Race and two vertical races.
The festival’s anniversary edition also has a lot in store for the 50,000 expected visitors: a large expo featuring over 35 exhibitors, food trucks offering culinary delights, and a diverse supporting program will ensure an unforgettable experience. Special highlights include the screening of the European Outdoor Film Tour (EOFT) and the Panorama Testival on the Hungerburg.
TIROL AS A GUARANTEE FOR HIGH-QUALITY SPORTS EVENTS
“With the Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival, the sports region of Tirol once again demonstrates its expertise in hosting high-profile sporting events with great appeal. Considering how complex and challenging the organization of such an event is, the collaboration of so many stakeholders is even more impressive. I am particularly pleased that this festival brings together elite and recreational athletes, making it an inclusive event for everyone,” emphasizes Philip Wohlgemuth, Deputy Governor and Sports Minister of Tirol.
GREAT RESPONSE FROM LOCALS
“We are incredibly proud to host one of the most established trail running events in the Alps. I am especially pleased that this festival resonates so well with the local community and that the alpine-urban lifestyle will be felt throughout the entire city. A heartfelt thank you to Alexander Pittl and his dedicated team for their tremendous efforts in making this happen year after year,” says Johannes Anzengruber, Mayor of Innsbruck.
AUSTRIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR THE FIRST TIME
“It is a great honor for us that, as part of the IATF’s 10th anniversary, three races will be included in the Austrian National Championships. The Sportler Vertical will determine the national mountain running champion, while the Young Talents Race and the K15 Rookie Trail will award the Trail Classic medals. This means we will not only welcome athletes from 70 nations but also Austria’s entire elite field,” says Alexander Pittl, CEO of Laufwerkstatt and IATF organizer.
He adds: “Events of this scale can only succeed when everyone pulls together with full commitment and passion. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all volunteers, sponsors, and partners. Our vision is to establish the World Trailrunning Competence Center in Innsbruck in collaboration with the international federation and to create a center with the Institute of Sports Science at the University of Innsbruck that promotes elite sports, research, youth development, and economic impulses for the region.”
A SPORTS FESTIVAL FOR BEGINNERS AND PROFESSIONALS
The Innsbruck Alpine Trailrun Festival 2025 will feature 14 races. The event kicks off on Wednesday, April 30, at 6:00 PM in front of the State Theater with the K7-Business Trail and K7-Night Trail. On Thursday morning, climbing specialists will take on the Vertical Races up to the Seegrube, followed by the debut of the Young Talents Race in the afternoon.
Saturday will focus on mid- and long-distance races. At midnight, the two longest events, K110 Master of Innsbruck and K85 Heart of the Alps Ultra, will start. In the morning hours, the K65 Panorama Ultra Trail, K42 Trail Marathon, K35 Discovery Race, K25 Trail Half Marathon, and K15 Rookie Trailrun will follow.
The event also includes a diverse supporting program, food trucks, exciting side events, and a large expo with over 35 exhibitors. Additional highlights include the European Outdoor Film Tour (EOFT) screening and the Panorama Testival on the Hungerburg.
INNSBRUCK ALPINE AS AN INDISPENSABLE COMMUNICATOR
Holger Gassler, Head of Marketing at Innsbruck Tourism, is excited about the festival’s promotional value for the Innsbruck brand:
“With 7,000 participants from 70 countries experiencing highly emotional moments and sharing them through videos and images on their social channels, these messages have high credibility and spread Innsbruck’s alpine-urban vibe worldwide. The IATF is a highlight in our event calendar and a significant economic driver for the entire region.”
INNSBRUCK ALPINE AS A FIXTURE IN THE RACE CALENDAR
Despite the high density of trail running events, the IATF remains a must-attend event for many international athletes. Dioni Gorla, adidas TERREX runner and Innsbruck resident, emphasizes the IATF’s significance for the scene:
“The Innsbruck Alpine marks the start of the competition season for many top runners and serves as a true benchmark. Besides the stunning landscapes, many athletes appreciate the alpine-urban vibe and the fantastic atmosphere along the course. Running in Innsbruck is always something very special and, despite the physical challenge, an absolute pleasure.”
The IATF 2025 is supported by the AUSTRIA TREND Hotel Congress Innsbruck as the official hotel partner.
