Summary

A trail marathon that packs a punch. With around 2500 meters of elevation gain, this trail calls for brave runners willing to take on a challenge. In addition to flowy sections that offer brief moments to catch your breath, there are also steep climbs up to the Mutterer Alm, through Axamer Lizum, all the way to the Nordkette. Innsbruck’s mountain classics invite you to gasp and enjoy the views. One thing is certain: anyone taking part here should be well-prepared for this challenge.

DETAILED TRACK DESCRIPTION

The K42 starts at the valley station of the Mutterer Alm and climbs steeply towards the Raitiser Alm. The trail continues along the ridge to the Mutterer Alm at 1,620 meters, where the first section rewards you with a breathtaking view of the majestic Nordkette. After the first aid station, the path passes the idyllic reservoir and continues upwards to the Birgitzer Alm at 1,809 meters—the highest point of the race. Here begins a thrilling downhill adventure to the valley station of the Axamer Lizum cable cars. With the impressive Kalkkögel to the south and the Nordkette to the north, the Schartensteig demands full concentration before the panoramic trail offers a brief moment of recovery. From Birgitz, the route continues through the Nasse Tal, passing Völs and Kranebitten. But before you reach the finish line, the last major effort awaits: the climb up the Bärfallsteig. If you still have energy left, you can pick up speed on the final downhill to Hungerburg. The finish line at the forecourt of the Landestheater in Innsbruck marks the crowning conclusion of an unforgettable race.

With challenging ascents, fast downhills, and spectacular views, this course is a must for all trail runners looking to take on their next big challenge!
