Summary
Since 2018, our classic opener for the IATF weekend – and a long-time favorite prologue – is now also available for young runners! The route starts and finishes at the Landestheater and leads straight onto the trails toward the Alpenzoo.
Be careful with your pace early on – the steep Wilhelm-Greil-Weg climb just below the Hungerburg will test you. Once you’ve hit the highest point, take a breather, soak in the views over Innsbruck, and get ready for the Knappensteig – a super fun, flowy, and technical downhill. It’s a blast, but definitely not without its challenges!
Whether it’s your first trail run or you’re already a seasoned racer, the Young Talent Race is an exciting challenge for all aged 14 to 22.
The Young Talent Race brings fresh energy to the IATF weekend, offering young trail runners aged 14 to 22 the perfect chance to prove themselves on the trails. This course combines challenge and fun, making it an exciting experience for both beginners and more experienced young athletes.
The race starts and finishes at the Landestheater, with the route heading straight onto the trails toward the Alpenzoo. The first few meters are fairly relaxed, but a steep climb up the Wilhelm-Greil-Weg soon puts your strength and pacing to the test, as the trail continues uphill all the way to just below the Hungerburg. Once at the top, it’s worth taking a short moment to catch your breath – the view over Innsbruck is stunning.
But don’t rest too long – the most exciting part is yet to come: the Knappensteig. This fast, flowy, and varied downhill section demands focus and a good feel for the terrain. It’s technically challenging but packed with fun, bringing runners back down into the valley in style.
