Short summary
A wonderful loop around Innsbruck, past the Kalkkögeln and over the Patscherkofel. The permanently challenging trails should not be underestimated and must be factored into the distance. If you want to run here, you definitely need to know what you are doing. Following the route of last year’s World Championships, it is now your turn to prove your stamina.
Detailed track description
In 2024 we are turning the tables, or in our case the route. We start at the forecourt of the Tiroler Landestheater again. We run underneath the Golden Roof, past the Alpen Zoo, over the Durrachsteig towards the Kranebitten supply station (approx. 13 km). From there, the route continues via Völs and then takes a flowing ascent to Birgitz. Now it gets tough, as the route climbs steeply uphill via the Götznergraben to the Mutterer Alm (approx. 9 km and 800 m ascent). As a reward, however, the Mutterer Alm is reached for an exclusive sunrise, which is emphasized by a magnificent panorama with a view of the unique Kalkkögel mountains and the whole of Innsbruck. Then it’s back down into the Stubai Valley, with easy trails and the next highlight, the Sillschlucht. Here you can expect technical trails paired with rushing water and steep rocky slopes, which will show you the way back to Innsbruck.
Then it’s time to collect altitude meters up the Patscherkofel. First, the route climbs steeply past the Lanser Alm (1780m) to the highest point of the route, at 2048m, on the Zirbenweg. There may well be a snowfield or two to pass. From there, the finest single trails lead along the famous Almenweg 1600, past the most beautiful alpine pastures in Innsbruck, to the Rinner Steig, which leads back down into the valley. Via the Speckbach trails, the route then leads directly to the Herzsee aid station. Then the route leads through the over 700-year-old, historic town center of Hall in Tirol and over the last steep climb to the Enzianhütte. Afterwards, our unique finish line awaits you in the heart of Innsbruck.
